Shangri- La has acquired state land on the Colombo beachfront to build a USD500 mn. Multi-use complex with high-end retail facilities, de-luxe apartments and a 500 key luxury hotel to open early in 2014.  Shangri-La are also planning to develop a 300 key city resort on a100 acre site in Hambantota to open in 2013.

China National Aero Technology Import & Export Corporation (CATIC) intend to build a multifunction complex comprising a five star hotel and a shopping mall, with an investment of USD 500 mn.

Six Senses Resorts and Spas has signed a deal with Aitken Spence Hotel Holdings PLC.  The USD 45 mn. Project is to include a resort and spa, including residential villas, on a 10.5 acre site at Ahungalla and an ecological, environmentally very low impact site of semi-tented structures on a 27 acre island nearby.  They expect a rom rate in the range of USD 400 to 500.

Swiss-based Movenpick Hotels and Resorts is to manage a city hotel in Colombo but is also looking for other opportunities on the island.  Movenpick has struck a 12 year management deal with the Softlogic Group which is planning t build a 24-floor, 224 room tower hotel in Colombo.
Jetwings Hotels has commissioned a Singapore architect to create a 60-room boutique hotel and 25 apartments at Ward Place in Colombo.

Citrus Leisure PLC aims to build a four-star resort with 150 rooms and 28 villas in Kalipitiya.  The villas, which will have individual pontoons giving access to the sea, are to be leased out on 99-year leases to high-net-worth individuals.

Vallibel One Ltd is to build a five-star hotel in Negombo at a cost of USD 38 mn.  They have also acquired a 14 acre site at Kochchikade to build a 382 room hotel with 42 suites, a spa and fitness centre, 600 seat capacity banquet hall, restaurant, retail arcade and a 1,500 square metre outdoor pool.
